Biographical Note:
Eric Edelman served as under secretary of defense for policy from 2006 to 2009, after which he retired from the U.S. Foreign Service. Prior to this, Edelman served as U.S. Ambassador to Turkey (2003-05) and to Finland (1998-2001), as well as principal deputy assistant to the vice president for national security affairs (2001-03). After earning his Ph.D in diplomatic history from Yale University in 1981, Edelman worked in many other government positions related to diplomacy and national security, spending much of his time as a member of the State Department both at home and abroad.
