Research Interests:
As part of SMU’s Anxiety and Depression Research Center, Sofia focuses on dimensional analysis of anxiety and mood disorders. She is also interested in promoting mental health awareness within the Hispanic community.
Road to the Moody School:
Sofia grew up in the border cities of Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico and El Paso, Texas. She moved to Boston, Massachusetts, to complete her undergraduate studies in neuroscience and psychology at Boston University, receiving her B.A. in 2017. As a post-baccalaureate student, she worked as a clinical research coordinator at the Division of Neuropsychiatry and Neuromodulation at Massachusetts General Hospital, studying the mechanisms of different neuromodulation techniques as treatments for mood disorders. In her free time, Sofia enjoys running, baking, exploring Dallas and spending time with her family and friends.
