Maria Markevitch
Maria Markevitch was born in 1994 in Ann Arbor, MI. She started playing the pipe organ when she was eight years old and spent her whole life fluctuating between two countries: the US and Russia, both of which gave her many wonderful teachers. She began studying the pipe organ in 2003 at the Balakirev Children's Art School with Leonid Vechheiser (Moscow, Russia) and continued to study in Philadelphia, PA at the Settlement School of Music with McEwan Walters.
Maria graduated from the Academic Musical College at the Moscow State University of P.I. Tchaikovsky in 2017 (class of Galina Semenova), and recently graduated with honors from the Moscow State Conservatory of P.I. Tchaikovsky (class of Natalia Gureeva, 2022). She has won many awards in organ competitions: the I international competition "Young Organist," the Third International Odoevsky Organ Competition and the First International Organ Competition of Roizman, all in Moscow. Maria has also participated in many festivals internationally: Moscow International Organ Festival, the Youth Summer Art Festival (Philadelphia, PA), the International Youth Organ Festival (Tallinn, Estonia) and Christmas Festival (Sakhalin, Russia). From 2020 to 2022 Maria taught pipe organ at a Children's School of Arts (named after A. Dargomyzhsky) in Moscow.
Currently, Maria is completing her master’s degree with Stefan Engels at SMU.
