Biographical Note

Lorena Oropeza (Cornell PhD, Class of 1995) is a former journalist and current Professor of Chicanix Latin Studies in the Department of Ethnic Studies at the University of California Berkley. Her research interests include Chicanix history, gender, oral history, and race and empire. Oropeza’s research and courses are inspired by 1960s activists and she aims to inspire new ways of thinking about history. She has written two books on Chicano Movements, and is also a senior member of the Latinx Democracy Cluster.
