Rhodes Scholarship
Perhaps the most well-known national fellowship of them all, the Rhodes Scholarship funds two-to-three years of graduate study at the University of Oxford in most fields. The Rhodes Trust sets four broad criteria for evaluating applicants: academic excellence; energy to use one’s talents to the full; truth, courage, devotion to duty, sympathy for and protection of the weak, kindliness, unselfishness, and fellowship; and moral force of character and instincts to lead. Thirty-two applicants from the United States are selected each year.
In order to participate in the campus nomination process, all applicants must submit their completed applications by the SMU deadline.
Eligibility Criteria for U.S. Applicants
- U.S. citizen or national
- Graduating senior or recent alumni
- Demonstrate all of the award criteria mentioned above
- Age limit: 24 (as measured at the time of application)
