  • Praise Band Leader (part-time)

    FUMC Red Oak is seeking a leader of contemporary worship for our blended 11:00 am service. The service is a liturgical format with a short contemporary praise set. Rehearsal with the existing praise band may take place during the week or on Sunday morning prior to the service. Singer who leads with guitar is preferred, though keyboard is also an option.     McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church is a large and active church known for its musical excellence. McFarlin has a rich history of worship and music in its sanctuary services led by organ, choir, and handbells. The Associate Director of Music Ministries is part of a collaborative music ministry team, including two full-time musicians, one part-time musician, and an administrative assistant, that oversee a multi-generational music program with four choirs and six handbell choirs.

    Responsibilities:
    Conduct three choral ensembles: Chancel Choir (adults), Chapel Choir (high school and college), and McFarlin Singers (select schola group)

    Prepare and conduct choirs for weekly rehearsals, Sunday worship, high holy days, and special worship services in collaboration with the Director. Services include All Saints, World Communion, Candlelight Carol, Christmas Eve, and Holy Week

    Select appropriate choral repertoire in consultation with Director of Music in a wide variety of musical styles, including masterworks with orchestra

    Coordinate and manage paid choral section leaders

    Develop and recruit Youth Choir members and assist with Children’s Choir as needed

    Maintain an organized library of choral repertoire in music library
    • Lead congregational singing for worship services
    • Plan and lead choir tours. Previous tours include both domestic and international locations
    • Plan and lead Chancel Choir retreats
    • Plan and lead annual Youth Music Dinner Theatre
    • Assist Director, Pastors, and Pastoral Staff in planning worship
    • Assist Director of Music with coordination of hired instrumentalists
    • Coordinate and assist with music area fundraising activities. Fundraisers include parking
    space sales for sport events and the annual pumpkin sale
    • Assist with planning and operating music department events
    • Work collaboratively with Modern worship leaders as needed
    • Additional responsibilities based on the needs of the department

    Qualifications
    • Masters of Music degree required, emphasis in Choral Conducting or Sacred Music
    preferred, DMA preferred
    • 5+ years of experience in church music preferred
    • Experience working with the adolescent voice
    • Experience leading large masterworks preferred, ability to work with orchestra

    Skills
    • Ability to actively communicate with parents and families involved in music ministry
    • Ability to recruit singers for adult and youth choirs
    • Ability to recruit and sustain a volunteer team to assist with music ministry program
    • Ability to plan and execute trips of large groups of people
    • Piano or organ skills preferred
    • Experience with leading handbell ensembles preferred
    • Strong leadership skills
    • Works well collaboratively
    • Administrative, organizational, and computer skills including use of Microsoft Office
    systems and social media

  • PIANIST/ACCOMPANIST NEEDED FOR CHURCH WORSHIP SERVICES

    First United Methodist Church of Waxahachie is seeking a pianist/accompanist for its weekly worship services. Celebrating 175 years in the community, FUMC Waxahachie is an historic, established church with a congregation appreciative and supportive of its music ministry. The worship style is traditional, featuring works with choir, piano, organ, and other instrumentalists and vocalists.

    EXPECTATIONS

    Collaborate with the Director of Music Ministry to rehearse with the Chancel Choir and other soloists and ensembles in preparation for Sunday Worship services and special occasions

    Accompany hymns, choral octavos, and other sacred music selected by the Director of Music Ministry, and occasionally play prelude, postlude, and communion music

    Play piano during Chancel Choir rehearsals, which are typically Wednesday evenings from 7pm to 8:15 pm; this will include playing vocal SATB parts as well as the piano accompaniment

    Play piano for the 11am to 12pm Sunday worship service, with a brief rehearsal scheduled at 10:30 am

    Play piano for other special services as needed, such as for Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and Christmas Eve services (these dates and times will be given to the pianist in advance)

    Maintain professional behavior and attire while on the church campus and as it relates to the position

    Notify the Director of Music in advance of absences and assist with finding a replacement if possible

    EXPERIENCE

    Proficiency in playing the piano, including sight-reading and transposition

    Experience in playing in the church worship service setting and accompanying of choirs

    Appreciation for sacred music and its role in the spiritual life of the church

    Communication and collaboration skills with the church staff and its volunteers

    The role of the pianist/accompanist is a year-round, part-time position, and is open beginning in June of 2024. Although it is more demanding during Lent (the six weeks leading up to Easter) and Advent (the six weeks leading up to Christmas), it is less demanding during the summer months of June, July and August.  Compensation for the pianist/accompanist is currently $10,800 for the entire year, with payment made twice per month.
