- October 20, 2024: The second annual SMU Exercise is Medicine 5K Walk/Run was a huge success! With sold-out registration, over 200 students, faculty, staff, family, and friends came together for a campus run highlighting the positive impact of physical activity on mental and physical health. APSM faculty, Counseling Services staff, and 25 APSM students volunteered along the course, uniting the SMU community.
- April 30, 2024: APSM hosted a Share-A-Sole event. This event was a shoe handout for those who are unsheltered in the Dallas area.
- March 3, 2024: APSM 4310 Psychology of Sport had Mike Mauti has a guest speaker. Mr. Mauti was a co-captain on the 2012 Penn State football team that remained with the team after a scandal devastated the team, university and community. An assistant coach was found guilty of sexually abusing underprivileged children through his nonprofit foundation. After the scandal, Penn State football was all but dissolved and bore the brunt of the scandal despite not being aware of the abuse. Mike Mauti not only suffered from the scandal that broke his senior year, but also physically. He suffered his 3rd ACL injury and in his second year with the pros, a colon replacement. With each setback he was determined to return to the game, which he did. Below is a link to part of his story.
- February 20, 2024: APSM 4300 Advanced Coaching and Leadership, had the 43rd President of the United States, former President George W. Bush in as a guest speaker.

First Female NFL Coach, Jennifer Welter, visits SPL Class
10-14-15: Dr. Jennifer Welter surprised the Coaching and Sport Performance Leadership class. She spoke to the class about her experience coaching for the NFL's Arizona Cardinals team, and how she used her education in psychology to motivate the players.

3-27-2015 David Bertrand, Director of SPL, presides over a Coaching Expert Series (CES) in Plano, Texas, with elite triathlon coach Matt Dixon. The CES is an ongoing, free seminar series dedicated to bring some of the best minds in triathlon and multisport to discuss coaching, training, trends, equipment, and more.
