Data Science Cluster
The O’Donnell Institute serves as the activity hub for SMU Data Science Cluster. SMU has already devoted considerable resources to data science and has substantial strength in both its tools and applications. On the curricular side SMU offers a suite of masters’ degrees including online MS in Data Science, MS in Computer Science/Artificial Intelligence, MS in Network Engineering, MS in Datacenter Systems Engineering, MS in Business Analytics, MS in Applied Economics and Predictive Analytics, MS in Applied Statistics and Data Analytics, in addition to the long-standing MS in Operations Research. To these SMU has added a BS in Data Science and a PhD in Data Science to be housed in a newly formed Department of Statistics and Data Science (SDS).
The faculty supporting the Data Science Cluster are housed across different academic departments at SMU. The cluster faculty will augment and broaden SMU’s core capabilities in statistical techniques, data science, data mining. data analytics using AI/ML, and scientific computation. Each of the faculty hired into this cluster is expected to contribute to data science at SMU through teaching data science courses and collaboration in grant applications, with faculty across SMU and the O’Donnell Institute.
