Mission & Objectives

The mission of the Operations Research and Engineering Management Department is to:

• Provide a first-class undergraduate and graduate education that prepares engineering students with technical expertise for leadership positions in industry and government. This objective is achieved through programs that emphasize the systematic application of operations research, analytics, engineering management, and systems engineering principles and methods to real-life systems, products, processes and services for competitive advantage and to benefit society.
• Enhance the department’s national and international reputation for high-quality scholarship at the forefront of advanced technology, with immediate societal impact for good. This goal is achieved by conducting cutting-edge research, mentoring Ph.D. students, publishing leading-edge research, and inspiring funding support from granting agencies and industry.
• Lift the departmental profile and visibility by providing outstanding service and outreach to our stakeholders and the broader academic community.
