Edge of Winter is a 2D, procedurally generated, endless runner designed for Android tablet devices. KnightLight Interactive consists of four team members: Ed Dearien, Andrew Socha, Soraya Abtahi, and Christian Erali. Ed Dearien is the lead producer and game designer in charge of assets, with Andrew Socha as lead programmer, Soraya Abtahi as lead artist, and Christian Erali as lead level designer.
In this game, players take on the role of Anora as she travels down bumpy slopes bringing the first day of spring to the snowy world. The player's main objective is to achieve the highest score possible by gathering energy orbs and surviving as long as possible on the slopes. Along the way, players must dodge a number of different obstacles, each providing a unique challenge the player must overcome. These obstacles range from rocks and logs that line the slopes; to large chasms; to the adorable, mobile yaks; to the large imposing towers. As players travel along the slopes, they traverse through a simple, fairy tale-inspired world. Geometric mountains, trees, and clouds, along with cozy little homes, give life and breath to the white slopes.
Edge of Winter plays off the player's desire to do better on every run. A few more meters might get the player just as many points as a few more energy orbs forcing the player to sometimes either play risky in order to get more coins or play it safe and just continue through the level. Adding to this drive is the use record flag that continually updates the player on how close they are to their previous goal. All the while, the procedurally generated levels provide the player with a limitless amount of slopes and routes to take, ensuring that each run is unique in its own way. Edge of Winter provides player with a fun, challenging experience in a simple, geometric, and stylized world. With difficult obstacles, fun endless-runner style gameplay, and a procedurally generated world, Edge of Winter provides players with an exciting tablet experience.
