Midgard Saga is an isometric tactical role playing game with radial movement. Based loosely on Norse mythology, players control a group of four vikings on their quest to deliver magical mead to Odin as they climb from the mortal realm, Midgard, to the realm of the gods, Asgard. The player must overcome different challenges in each one of the five levels in order to reach Asgard. Aesthetically, Midgard Saga has a cartoon style to help convey the humorous story.
The team chose this type of game because we all shared a passion for strategy games and at the same time try to do a genre that hasn’t been done before at the Guildhall. It was very challenging creating a strategy game using a first person shooter engine, but we were able to think outside of the box and come up with creative solutions which lead to learning a lot from the experience. The project lasted approximately 6 months, beginning pre-production in June and finishing it in December.
