College seniors enrolled in a Latin certification program in Texas may apply for one of two $250 scholarships. The monies received are to be used during the semester in which the recipient is student teaching. For information please visit www.txclassics.org.

Designed to provide some financial assistance to those who wish to obtain certification to teach Latin at the primary through the secondary level, whether the specific courses are needed in Latin or in Education. The award is not intended to cover all costs of the training, and the size of the award varies according to the actual costs (primarily tuition and travel), the size of the committee's budget, and the number of applications. The Semple Award is a $3,500 fellowship for attending the summer session of the American School of Classical Studies at Athens. The Mary A. Grant Award is a $4,500 fellowship for attending the summer session of the American Academy in Rome. The Janice and Herbert Benario Award is a $2,000 fellowship that the recipient may apply to the summer travel program of his or her choice. Recipients of these awards must be current members of CAMWS who either: currently hold teaching positions in Greek or Latin in an elementary or secondary school in the CAMWS territory; or are enrolled as graduate students in a degree-granting program in Classics in the CAMWS territory. Applicant must be current member of The American Classical League and must also have been an ACL member for year prior to applying (if applying to attend ACL Institute for the first time, only current ACL membership required.

1. First-time attendance at The American Classical League Institute. The award will be applied to Institute expenses (registration, room and board on campus). Also, it may help to defray the cost of transportation.* (At least one of the awards may be given to an undergraduate classics major or graduate student of classics intending to teach at the elementary through college level.)

2. Other activities that serve to enhance a teacher's skills in the classroom (e.g. a computer workshop; an AP workshop, etc.). Awards may be used to cover the cost of tuition, room, board or travel. For information please visit www.aclclassics.org.

Eligibility. Eta Sigma Phi members. Two scholarships, one to the Classical Summer School of the American Academy in Rome and one to the Summer Session of the American School of Classical Studies at Athens, are open to members who have received a Bachelor's degree within the eight years prior to application (or shall have received it by June 1st of the current year) and who have not received a doctoral degree. A third scholarship, to a Summer Session of the Vergilian Society at Cumae, Italy, is open, in addition to those eligible for the first two scholarships, to members who will be rising juniors or seniors in the coming summer, and preference will be given to such undergraduate students. Recipients may receive graduate or undergraduate credit applicable toward a degree, provided advance arrangements have been made.

Amount. Scholarship to the American Academy in Rome has a value of up to $3475.00.

• who have received a Bachelor's degree since within the last ten years or who expect to receive it before the summer of the current academic year
