About the Collection
The African American Film Materials collection comprises 4,254 film stills, lobby books, pressbooks, posters, and related items from motion pictures featuring Black actors spanning nearly 40 years from 1943-1985. The digital collection contains images of renowned actors and entertainers, including Sidney Poitier, Ben Vereen, Ruby Dee, Billy Dee Williams, Richard Pryor, Harry Belafonte, Denzel Washington, Ossie Davis, Muhammed Ali, the Harlem Globetrotters, and more. The 421 items online are made available thanks to permission from Sony Pictures Entertainment.
