SMU Ring Ceremony

April 20

10 a.m.-2 p.m.

The SMU Ring Ceremony is a special tradition at SMU which commemorates students’ personal achievements at SMU and marks an educational milestone as students receive their SMU ring. The SMU ring is a unifying symbol that links current and former students to our accomplished university and to each other.

With family and friends looking on, students will receive their ring from President R. Gerald Turner. Alumni Board Chair, Philip Wise and DEA student representative to the Board of Trustees, Tryg Aanenson will deliver remarks celebrating the ring recipient’s many accomplishments, hard work, and bond to the Hilltop.

Students and their families will have an opportunity to have pictures taken with President Turner by a professional photographer.

Stay tuned for the SMU Ring Ceremony date to be announced here. Registration to follow.

Friends and family of the ring recipient are encouraged to attend.

I am not a senior, why am I being invited to purchase a ring and attend Ring Ceremony?

Any undergraduate student who has achieved the required 60+ credit hours and graduate student who has completed their first year is eligible to purchase a ring. In this case, there are students who are eligible to purchase rings as juniors. It is completely up to the student when they decide to purchase their ring. I graduate in December. Can I still attend the spring Ring Ceremony after I graduate?

Absolutely! Because we only host ring ceremonies during the spring semester, we highly encourage any December graduates to come back and join us for the Spring Ceremony to celebrate this important milestone.
