The Office of General Education is passionate about helping students complete their Proficiency & Experience (P&E) requirements through co-curricular activities. Our Common Curriculum Reading program offers undergraduate students a unique opportunity to join a reading group focusing on books relevant to SMU’s P&Es.

The Office of General Education professional staff offer a seies of student workshops each semester. These workshops suppelment their academic advisor meetings by offering guidance on Common Curriculum requirements, course offerings, Degree Planner, Degree Progress Reports (DPR), Transfer Evaluation Records (TER), and petitiong process.

If undergraduate students aren't able to attend our workshops we offer Pop-Ups each term. These are tabling events where students can stop by and ask any questions regarding their general education and graduation requirements. Pop-Ups occur in high-traffic student areas and are easy for students to get quick answers to their questions.

The Peer Academic Leaders (PALs) are a group of undergraduate students at SMU who dedicate their time to helping their fellow Mustangs succeed academically. They offer a variety of programs throughout the semester with topics ranging from Degree Planner, the Common Curriculum, study tips, SMU resources, and many more.
