Interfolio for Faculty Search and Recruitment
Getting started:
For SMU users who are new to using Interfolio when creating new faculty searches, please watch this 10-minute getting-started tutorial that provides a step-by-step guide.
Key reminders from the video:
- Enter the School/College as the unit when developing a new position. Do not enter the department as the unit.
- Add the position number as the first part of the title
- Include an Interfolio application link in the position advertisement
- Add the search committee chair as a “Committee Manager”
- Add all other search committee members as “evaluators,” which will typically be the default role when you add them.
Questions to confirm with the search committee chair prior to setting up positions:
- Which search criteria are required (e.g., CV, research statement, letters of recommendation)?
- Which evaluation system will be used (e.g., internal or external to Interfolio)?
- Which messaging system and/or message templates will be used?
How-to guides for frequently used additional functions:
- How to set up the committee manager role
- How to run reports on faculty positions and position status
- How to create and manage message templates
- How to send emails to individuals and groups through Interfolio

Interfolio for Faculty Promotion and Tenure
Getting started:
For SMU users who are new to using Interfolio for Faculty Promotion and Tenure, please go to Interfolio's Product Help webpage for a step-by-step guide.
For faculty candidates who are using Interfolio for a promotion and tenure case, this user's guide provides many useful answers to common questions about activating the account, adding files to the packet, submitting forms, and previewing the packet.
Considerations to be confirmed with the Promotion and Tenure Committee Chair:
- Which files are required for the dossier?
- Who is responsible for uploading which of the files?
- Who is the point person within the department for supporting Interfolio use and binder preparation?
- Are there internal deadlines for preparing and uploading materials?
- What is the naming system for files?
