Programs and Events
The Center for Teaching Excellence offers a number of varied programs, workshops, and events throughout the year.
Semester Events -- Events that support and connect faculty members. Includes: Teaching Thursdays, Faculty Grading Break, etc.
Teaching Topics -- Teaching ideas, hands-on workshops, and topical debates designed for all members of the SMU teaching community. Find inspiration or add a new tool to your teaching repertoire.
Teaching Effectiveness Symposium -- Start the school year off with a half-day program specifically designed for both beginning teachers and their mentors. This annual program includes orientation for new faculty as well as workshops on teaching methods and spotlights on innovative teaching practices.
Spring Kickoff -- Kickoff the spring term with hands-on pedagogical workshops, informative panels, and a delicious boxed lunch.
Spring Pedagogical Institute -- This selective and generative event, held the week following graduation, fosters faculty collaboration in service of a different, specific pedagogical goal each year.
New Faculty Orientation -- A series of breakout sessions at the start of the year designed to provide new faculty with the information necessary for a successful start to the semester.
Thank-a-Colleague and Thank-a-Professor -- at the end of each semester, the CTE solicits thank-you notes from faculty and staff for their colleagues and from students for faculty who have had a significant, positive impact on their learning.
