Social Media for Ministry
Perkins School of Theology and the Beatitudes Society
Present “Social Media for Ministry” Workshop
October 16, 2010
The Beatitudes Society, in consultation with Perkins School of Theology, will present a workshop on Social Media for Ministry on Saturday, October 16. The workshop, which will be led by Beatitudes Society staff person Kimberly Knight, is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. in room 100 of the Elizabeth Perkins Prothro Hall on the SMU campus. Continental breakfast will be provided at 8:30 a.m.
The workshop is designed to equip Christian leaders with tools needed for 21st century ministry, including hands-on tutorials for the use of internet networking sites and resources such as Facebook, Twitter, blogging and YouTube.
As participants explore ways to increase communication with members of the church and the larger community, they will learn to identify and hone the purposes for engaging social media, explore examples of congregations using online technology well, identify which social networking media work in different contexts, and discuss the theological and ecclesiological implications of contemporary social networking.
This workshop is appropriate for students, faculty members, local clergy, and lay leaders, as well as other interested persons. The cost, which includes lunch, is $10 for students and $25 for faculty members, area clergy, and others. Because the workshop is limited to a maximum of 50 participants, interested persons are encouraged to register early at www.beatitudessociety.org/social-media.
Kimberly Knight, the workshop leader for this event, earned the Master of Divinity from Candler School of Theology at Emory University, and is Circuit Rider for the Beatitudes Society, working across the U.S. to establish new chapters in seminary and community settings. She brings more than 15 years of experience across a broad spectrum of technology settings, including multi-media production and instructional technology. Kimberly has also planted and currently pastors an online congregation.
