More early scholarships available for transfer students

Students with 24 hours and a 3.3 GPA now eligible for scholarships.

Transfer scholarship student Raissa Umwali '25, a computer science and data science major, has found her SMU home. "It's becoming a place I truly love," she says.

DALLAS (SMU) – Students transferring to SMU with a 3.3 GPA earned in as few as 24 transferable hours are now automatically eligible for scholarships, putting an SMU education within reach earlier for more outstanding scholars.

Previously, students needed 50 credit hours to be eligible for transfer scholarships to SMU. Transfer scholarships for qualified students are now available for students who have completed as little as one year at another institution.

SMU continues to consider transfer applications for spring 2025 beyond the November 1 priority deadline. Applications for fall transfer admission are due by April 1.

“We’ve heard from students they want to get to the Hilltop sooner rather than later,” said Wes Waggoner, vice provost for Enrollment Management. “This helps talented students transfer to SMU on their own timeline – when it makes the most sense for them. More scholarship opportunities make SMU more affordable to more students.”
