The coach of the top team in the American Athletic Conference picked up one of the conference's top honors on Thursday.
SMU coach Tim Jankovich was named the AAC Coach of the Year by his peers in the conference. Jankovich and the Mustangs will travel to Hartford, Conn., today for this weekend's AAC tournament. SMU (27-4) is ranked No. 1 and has a first-round bye.
In his first year as the Mustangs' head coach, he led them to the AAC outright conference for the second time in the last three years. He spent the previous four years as an assistant at SMU and coached the first nine games of the 2015-16 season while Larry Brown was suspended.
