Benjamin Munson, who is graduating in May with a Bachelor of Music degree in guitar performance, has been named the winner of the Johnny and Frances Williams Prize in Performing Arts from Alpha Chi, the national college honor society.

Munson was one of 28 members of the society who received prizes for making the best scholarly, creative or artistic presentations in their fields at the society’s national convention, held in Washington, D.C., April 7-9. Nearly 300 participants from across the country vied for the awards.

Munson’s presentation was titled “Music of the 17th and Early 18th Centuries Transcribed for the Classical Guitar” and included introductory remarks, a performance of three works by Praetorius and Bach and a question and answer session with the audience.

Founded in 1922, Alpha Chi is a national, coeducational academic honor society established to promote academic excellence and exemplary character among college and university students across multiple disciplines, and to honor those who achieve such distinction. Membership is limited to the top 10 percent of juniors, seniors and graduate students at each institution.
