SMU improved five spots to No. 10 in the AP Top-25 released Monday.
It marks the first time to reach the top 10 since February, 1985. The Mustangs reached a program-best No. 2 ranking that season. SMU also was ranked No. 4 in 1956-57 and was No. 8 in 1955-56.
The Mustangs were No. 15 before beating Cincinnati, 59-57, and UCF, 88-73.
“It’s special, especially for this group of guys,” big man Markus Kennedy said. “We’ve been through so much since I’ve been here. It’s been like non-stop adversity and we continue to fight through it. I definitely think that it’s well deserved because we’ve worked hard for it. When you talk about SMU basketball, you’re always going to remember the team that made the top 10 for the first time in 30 years. That’s huge.”
