The SMU Women's Basketball coaches decided recently to #chill4charity in support of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. The foundation is committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women’s cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause.
SMU Women's Head Basketball Coach Rhonda Rompola and Assistant Coaches Deneen Parker and Danny Hughes decided to accept the challenge and #chill4charity by having a bucket of ice water dumped on them at the Dedman Center for Lifetime Sports.
Coach Rompola has challenged Mark Cuban from the Dallas Mavericks and Coach Parker has challenged Ellen DeGeneres, lets see if they Pony Up to the challenge.
#Chillin4Charity is a national movement among the women’s basketball community. It was initiated by Arizona head coach Niya Butts in helping to raise awareness for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Named after the North Carolina State legendary coach Kay Yow, who lost her fight with breast cancer in January 2009, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund has raised more than $8 million and generated almost $4 for scientific research and related programs.
How the #Chillin4Charity Cold Water Challenge works: Coaches, student-athletes, friends and family are challenged to receive a dose of ice cold water over their heads and, if not accepted, donate money or community service hours to charity.
