Mustangs Increase Votes Received In American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 Poll
The Mustangs received votes in the AVCA Coaches Top 25 Poll for the third straight week after winning three matches at the SMU Doubletree Classic to extend their win streak to a program-best 11 matches.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (AVCA/SMU) - Mustangs Volleyball received votes in the AVCA Coaches Top 25 Poll for the third straight week after winning three matches at the SMU Doubletree Classic to extend their win streak to a program-best 11 matches. SMU first began receiving votes in the Sept. 8 poll after beating then-No. 24 Oklahoma in five sets in Moody Coliseum.
In addition to the win against Oklahoma, the Mustangs have beaten a pair of teams from the Southeastern Conference, Arkansas and Georgia, and Georgia Tech, a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. During the win streak, SMU has swept six matches, beaten two opponents in four sets, and won in five sets three times.
SMU earned three tournament titles in four weeks leading up to American Athletic Conference play, which begins against UCF Friday at 7 p.m. in Moody Coliseum, with Caroline Young being named to the all-tournament team four times, and Morgan Heise collecting three Best Libero awards. Young leads the team and is eighth in The American with 3.55 kills per set, and Heise ranks sixth in the league with 4.59 digs per set.
The Mustangs totaled 15 points in the latest poll, which ranks 32nd. Duke is the first team outside the top 25, garnering 53 points.
