UNIVERSITY PARK — SMU faced a big problem regarding postseason play, but this had nothing to do with the NCAA selection committee.
The Mustangs had to find ways to overcome Mamadou Ndiaye, UC Irvine’s 7-6 center, to advance in the National Invitation Tournament.
SMU figured it out, sending waves of players right at the big man. The Mustangs took control in the second half for a 68-54 victory before 5,031 at Moody Coliseum.
SMU (24-9) will face LSU (20-13), which defeated San Francisco, in a second-round game at 8 p.m. Monday at Moody.
