Yang Liu

Research Interests:
Yang focuses on medical/psychological anthropology, and her research interests include mental illness and mental health, gender study and STS. Her work has particularly focused on postpartum depression (PPD) in urban China where she explores the embodied and moral experience, the subjectivity of postpartum depressed women and the knowledge production of PPD in urban China.
Road to the Moody School:
Yang earned a joint bachelor’s degree in economics and management from Southwestern University of Finance and Economics and her M.S. in psychology from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Her interests in mental health and mental illness as well as her preference for the ethnographic research method led Yang to anthropology. Outside of research, she enjoys reading, swimming and spending time with her friends.
