Alumni Spotlight: Willow Blythe-Carroll
Journalism alum Willow Blythe-Carroll (B.A., '13) learned to think creatively and explore bold ways of communication during her time at Meadows, which led to her establishing her company, Weaving Wisdom.
Willow Blythe-Carroll (B.A. ’13) is this week’s featured alum in our new Alumni Spotlight series for the This Week at Meadows e-newsletter. Each week, a different Meadows alum will be highlighted for their accomplishments post-graduation.
As an enrolled member of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, Willow Blythe-Carroll has always felt a passion for inspiring change — a true calling that runs deep within her Indigenous culture and upbringing. Through Meadows’ Journalism program, she learned skills that would help her on this personal and professional journey.
“Meadows helped me discover the power of storytelling,” says Blythe-Carroll. “I learned how to tell meaningful and impactful stories that make a difference. Our stories are truly at the heart of our humanity, and they are what connect us together.”
During her time in the program, her Journalism professors always encouraged her to think creatively and explore bold ways of communication. It was this encouragement and mindset that shaped her career journey as a storyteller and professional communicator. Her Indigenous heritage, along with a natural passion and desire to inspire people in an emotional and meaningful way, led her to establish her own company, Weaving Wisdom.
Weaving Wisdom is dedicated to bringing hope and healing to women, youth, and professional leaders of Indigenous and diverse communities through leadership development, restorative healing, and empowerment. Blythe-Carroll believes that each of us holds a unique light that deserves to be shared with the world and that we all have the potential for success.
“I share my journey of resilience and wisdom to inspire leaders to embrace hope and healing in their own journeys,” explains Blythe-Carroll, a first-generation college graduate and professional storyteller and communicator. “It’s an honor to uplift and empower others by equipping them with the tools they need to embrace hope and healing as part of their development as leaders.”
Blythe-Carroll’s impactful storytelling and impressive leadership in communities led to her being recognized as a 2023 “Native American 40 Under 40” by the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development and a 2022 Dallas “40 Under 40” Leader of Influence by the Public Relations Society of America. This recognition shines a light on her efforts in supporting Indigenous and diverse communities and advocating for the next generation of Indigenous leaders. It is a powerful reminder of how far she come on her personal and professional journey, and the strength she’s gained along the way.
“Everything I do is motivated by my grandfather in spirit, Luther J. Blythe, and his legacy of healing and empowerment within Indigenous communities,” she says. “I carry his torch forward to light the path for future generations."
