Division of Art Hosts “Open Studios” Event
Meadows art students will showcase their studios and their works
SMU Meadows School of the Arts will host an Open Studios event on Friday, March 23 from 5 to 8 p.m. showcasing the works of undergraduate and graduate students in the Division of Art. The event will take place throughout the art wing of the school’s Owen Arts Center, and will be a night of sharing perspectives, allowing prospective students and the Dallas community to engage with students and faculty and learn more about SMU’s art offerings.
The event will feature works in a variety of media, including painting, drawing, sculpture and ceramics, representing different subjects, styles and levels of experience. Attendees may visit with student artists in their studios and view artworks on display in hallways and classrooms. Music will be provided by guest DJ and SMU alumnus Shelby David Meier, and refreshments will be served.
Participating artists include M.F.A. students Nida Bangash, Xxavier [with 2 x’s] Edward Carter, Jer’lisa Devezin, Steven Hector Gonzalez, Ashlyn Lee and Jessamyn Plotts, and undergraduates Qusai Aqeel, Stejara Dinulescu, Ian Grieve, Demetria Hodges, Julia Jalowiec, Chloe Nix, Angie Reisch and Sonia Son. A host of other students and faculty will be on hand to talk with visitors about the Division of Art.
The event is organized by SMU Pollock Gallery Director and Curatorial Fellow Sofia Bastidas and Curatorial Assistant Ashlyn Lee.
