Leone Recording Wins Two Global Music Awards

SMU Meadows Chair of Piano Studies Carol Leone has won two silver Global Music Awards for her CD Change of Keys: One Piano, Three Keyboards (MSR Classics) in the categories of Classical and Solo Performance. Gapplegate Classical Review cites Leone’s performance on Change of Keys as one of “abundant musicality” and calls Leone “a true artist.” Additional Meadows colleagues contributed to the production of Change of Keys, including Professor of Music, Martha Raley Peak Endowed Centennial Chair and Director of Orchestral Activities Paul Phillips, as producer; Assistant Director for Music Operations David Brown, piano technician; and former Division of Music staff member Roy Cherryhomes, recording engineer.

Leone has performed and taught throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. She has been a prizewinner in piano competitions such as the National Beethoven Sonata Competition, the Missouri Southern International Piano Competition and the International Masters Piano Competition. Leone is also active in national and international keyboard festivals and conferences as a teacher, lecturer and adjudicator. She has been named Texas Music Teachers Association’s Collegiate Teacher of the Year and was one of 10 teachers selected nationwide to serve as Mobil Ambassador to the 9th Van Cliburn Competition.

Leone’s students have been top prizewinners in international competitions such as the Virginia Waring, the Bradshaw and Buono, the Chopin Foundation Scholarship Program and the Center for Musical Excellence International Young Artist Awards.

Global Music Awards is based in La Jolla, Calif., and was founded in 2011. The organization holds between three and five competitions each year in multiple categories.
