Steve Leary serves as the scene shop foreman in the Meadows Production Unit. He manages the Division of Theatre scene shop, which builds sets for theatre, opera and dance. Leary started at SMU as the shop foreman in 1989 after working as a scenic carpenter in Oklahoma, New Mexico, Texas and California, on everything from feature films to the Universal Studios Tour King Kong exhibit, to the 1987 Super Bowl pregame show set and has since served Meadows as both the Technical Director and Assistant Technical Director. Leary has worked with notable Dallas theaters including The Undermain, Kitchen Dog, Shakespeare Festival of Dallas and Project X. He teaches the scenery practicum and scenery run crew courses. Recently Leary has co-produced the feature film The Playroom, starring John Hawkes and Molly Parker, which was accepted into the Tribeca Film Festival and received a national release in 2013
