A graduate of Trinity University in San Antonio, Annette Bernhard Nevins has over 30 years of experience as a journalist and has held staff positions at five newspapers, including The Dallas Morning News, covering everything from breaking news, police, courts and education. She continues to freelance with bylines in publications such as D Magazine, Texas Highways and The Washington Post, where she was part of a team that was named a Pulitzer Prize Finalist for coverage related to the 2019 mass shooting in El Paso.

In addition to The Dallas Morning News, Nevins has also held reporting positions at the Austin American-Statesman and the San Antonio Express-News, and she was the Life Section editor at the Temple Daily Telegram.

Over the last 10 years she has taught young journalists at the University of North Texas, where she received her master's degree, and she currently teaches news reporting and feature writing at SMU.

When she is not teaching or writing, Nevins can be found with a hammer in her hand as she and her husband and three grown children volunteer to build affordable homes and communities with Collin County Habitat for Humanity.
