Jacqueline Fellows is a veteran journalist who has spent most of her career as a public radio broadcaster for the NPR station in Nashville, covering politics as part of the Capitol Hill Press corps, health care and troop deployments from nearby Fort Campbell during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Her reporting has been featured on NPR, CBC, KERA, Voice of America, and in 2008, co-hosted a one-hour, live radio show with the BBC’s Allan Little as part of the network’s “Talking America” series before the Presidential Debate in Nashville.
She was also the senior editor for BLR, a Boston-based publisher of the health care magazine and website, HealthLeaders. She’s interviewed nearly every title in healthcare, from the CEO of the largest health system to the president of the American Medical Association to nurses, residents and patients.
As a professor of practice at SMU, her courses focus on teaching students skills such as basic audio and video production (podcasting! video!) and digital journalism. Fellows also teaches the bedrock of journalism in advanced reporting and magazine writing classes. As the faculty advisor for SMU’s Daily Campus, she sees the promise and future of journalism in SMU students.
Fellows received a Gracie Allen Award for her reporting on a camp for young women, won numerous awards from the Associated Press for her reporting and writing, was named Best Newscaster in Tennessee in 2010 and was a finalist for the Jesse H. Neal Award for Best Range of Work by a Single Author in 2015 for her health care reporting at HealthLeaders.
