Chris Ham has been the director of dance production for the past five years, since returning to SMU as a contractor in 2015. Ham administrates all of the productions for the Division of Dance and designs for the Winspear performances and the student concerts at SMU. In addition, Ham is in charge of videography and backstage direction for all Dance Division performances, and teaches the dance production classes to all incoming first-year students. Ham is a graduate of the Meadows School of the Arts M.F.A. program in theatre design. He has designed costumes, lighting, projection, scenery and sound, as well as worked in all the technical areas for live production in dance, opera and theatre. Ham has designed for SONY and HASBRO trade shows and spent 10 years outside of Washington, D.C., as a freelance designer, producer and technical director for dance and theatre companies all along the Eastern Shore, including teaching at the Shenandoah Conservatory in their Dance Division. Since returning to Dallas in 2014, Ham has designed locally for Hathaway Academy of Ballet, Repertory Company Theatre, Upstart Productions, Cara Mia Theatre Company, Shakespeare Dallas, WaterTower Theatre, Big Thought/Creative Solutions, 6 o’Clock Dance Theatre, AKA:ballet, Contemporary Ballet Dallas, Bombshell Dance Project, Ballet Dallas, B. Moore Dance, and for several classical Indian dance arangetrams.
