Maureen A. Mixtacki, CPA, CGMA
Maureen Mixtacki is a certified public accountant and a chartered global management accountant with 18 years experience as chief financial officer of The Dallas Opera. There she was primary advisor to the general director and board of directors for all financial, technology, human resources and administrative matters of three separate but related nonprofit arts companies: The Dallas Opera, the Karayanis Center and The Dallas Opera Foundation. Her extensive experience in budgeting and financial management for arts organizations and nonprofits, including financial reporting and analysis, cash and investment management, audit, tax, and internal control development and implementation provides a strong framework for teaching with relevant examples from actual arts organizations.
In addition to teaching, Mixtacki is currently the chief financial officer for the nonprofit DOORS, and continues to perform consulting work for arts organizations and other nonprofits. She is an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA) and the Dallas CPA Society. A strong proponent of lifelong continuing professional education (CPE), Mixtacki serves on the TSCPA Annual Nonprofit Organizations Conference Committee (formerly as chair), as well as the Dallas CPA Society Annual CPE Conference Committee and the TSCPA Dallas Chapter Planning Committee for monthly educational meetings. She was awarded the Chairman’s Citation for Outstanding Service to the TSCPA CPE Foundation and continues to serve as a speaker for various conferences.
Mixtacki earned her B.B.A. in Accounting cum laude at the University of Notre Dame Mendoza College of Business, where she also received the Beta Alpha Psi National Literary Scholar award. Prior professional experience includes work as a senior auditor at the public accounting firm Arthur Andersen & Co. and as a financial manager, director of litigation support, and internal audit manager at Trammell Crow Company.
