SMU Lyle School of Engineering Welcomes Dr. Ben Zoghi as Associate Dean for Advanced Studies and Industrial Relationships

37-year Texas A&M veteran with over 125 peer-reviewed conference and journal papers also serves as Executive Director of the Hart Center for Engineering Leadership

SMU Lyle School of Engineering is delighted to announce that Dr. Ben Zoghi has joined as Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering faculty and holds the prestigious Bobby B. Lyle Endowed Professor of Engineering Innovation, effective August 2024.

Dr. Zoghi will serve in key roles including Associate Dean for Advanced Studies and Industrial Relationships, and Executive Director of the Hart Center for Engineering Leadership.

Dr. Zoghi brings with him a remarkable 37-year tenure at Texas A&M College of Engineering, where he established himself as a leader in engineering education and research. During his time at Texas A&M, Dr. Zoghi secured over $15 million in research grants and made significant contributions to the field through the publication of 9 books and book chapters, as well as over 125 peer-reviewed conference and journal papers.

His research interests are at the intersection of RFID/Sensor technology, wearable technology, and the application of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) in developing technical leaders. Dr. Zoghi’s innovative work is shaping the future of engineering by integrating advanced technologies with leadership development, a mission that aligns perfectly with the goals of the Lyle School of Engineering.

In addition to his roles at SMU, Dr. Zoghi holds a courtesy faculty fellowship appointment with the Los Alamos National Laboratory, where he collaborates on cutting-edge research projects and offers leadership programs utilizing emotional intelligence. His extensive experience and commitment to advancing both engineering knowledge and leadership skills make him a valuable addition to our faculty and an inspiring figure for our students.

As the Executive Director of the Hart Center for Engineering Leadership, Dr. Zoghi will play a pivotal role in preparing the next generation of engineers to lead with innovation and integrity. His leadership at the Hart Center will ensure that our students are equipped not only with technical expertise but also with the life skills necessary to excel in industry and academia.
