Establishing New Externship Placements

Student-Initiated New Externships

Students may apply to have appropriate unpaid legal internships recognized as for-credit externships. BEFORE THE STUDENT BEGINS WORKING, the student must meet with the Externship Faculty Supervisor and submit a New Externship Application Form (email LAURA BURSTEIN (lburstein@smu.edu) to obtain this form) to verify that the externship satisfies SMU Dedman School of Law’s Externship Requirements. Students may not begin an externship for credit until it has been approved by the Externship Faculty Supervisor.
