Notification of Selection

Students who are selected for verification receive a comment on their Student Aid Report (SAR) and by an official notification from Student Financial Services which is sent to the student's SMU email address.  

Students will also be notified of the verification requirement on their “To-Do List” panel located on the My.SMU Dashboard. Here, you will find a link connecting the student to the student forms website to complete the required documentation. 

Students have sixty days from the date of notification to complete the verification process.  Failure to comply could result in the cancellation of financial aid for the payment period or period of eligibility.   If the sixty day verification period extends beyond the last day of the payment period or period of eligibility, a student may be considered eligible for aid through the end of the sixty day verification window.   Otherwise, eligibility ends the last day of the payment period or period of eligibility. 

As with all financial aid, eligibility is subject to the availability of funds as well as the rules and requirements for each specific aid program.
