Stefano Recchia

Stefano Recchia holds the John G. Tower Distinguished Chair in International Politics and National Security as an associate professor at SMU. He also directs the Tower Center’s national security program. Previously, he was a tenured faculty member at the University of Cambridge, UK. Recchia received his PhD in political science from Columbia University (with distinction) and holds a Master’s in international relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science. He has been awarded numerous grants and fellowships, including from the Brookings Institution, Fulbright Commission, Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Rotary Foundation, European Commission, and Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme.

Prof. Recchia’s research and teaching interests revolve around U.S. national security policy and transatlantic relations, the politics and ethics of military intervention, and multilateral cooperation in security and defense affairs. He is the author of Reassuring the Reluctant Warriors: U.S. Civil-Military Relations and Multilateral Intervention (Cornell Studies in Security Affairs, 2015). In addition, his research has appeared in a variety of peer-reviewed journals, including Ethics & International Affairs, International Theory, the Journal of Strategic Studies, Security Studies, and the Review of International Studies.
