Cole is a first-generation college student and citizen of the Chickasaw Nation. Prior to SMU, he attended Texas Woman's University, earning both a BS (2020) and MA (2023) in history. Cole studies Native American history, the Cold War, and the 20th century. His research interests are Native Americans in the 20th century and identity. This interest led to his master's thesis, "Fighting Indians or Harmonious Natives: (Mis)Remembering the American Indian Movement."
