Anthropology Club

The SMU Anthropology Club is a student organization for those interested in the diverse fields devoted to understanding culture and humanity. While many of the club's members are undergraduate majors and graduate students pursuing Master's and Doctoral degrees, our membership is not limited to those pursuing anthropology as a major or a career. Rather, the club exists to provide students with the opportunity to explore anthropology more fully, and to interact with students who have similar interests.

A chartered organization within the university system, the club is administered by several officers, including a president, vice-president elect, vice-president of membership, treasurer, secretary, and historian to name a few. The Anthro Club also sponsors a number of events over the course of the academic year, most notably the annual "Pig Roast" held each Spring semester. Now an institution within the department, the "Pig Roast" consists of a special guest lecturer chosen each year by the club membership and rotated through the various sub-disciplines of anthropology. These lectures have succeeded in bringing to SMU some of the most interesting and provocative researchers in these fields. Also, the club hosts its annual Dia De Los Muertos celebration each October. Remembering those special friends and family who have gone on, and enjoying food, music, and camaraderie.
