Nomination Process
Minimum requirements for consideration:
- Detailed and complete nomination form
- Resume, biographical summary or curriculum vitae
Suggested, but not required:
- Letters of support that include additional details on the candidate’s merit

- No required number of recommendation or support letters
- Letters from various aspects of the candidate’s career, community service, school, family are helpful
- Letters provide details about character, SMU involvement, career, and philanthropic or community work
- Additional information such as magazine or newspaper articles, websites, etc.
- Profiles may be refreshed with additional letters and materials during the three year eligibility cycle
Nomination timeline:
December 31: Nominations due for Distinguished Alumni and Emerging Leader Award Nominations remain in consideration for 3 years
January 12-19: Letters of support and additional support materials due
Mid-January: Nomination packets distributed to Alumni Board Nominating Committee
February: Nominating Committee meets
March-April: Honorees are notified after date for Homecoming is set
May: Nominators of those selected (and not selected) are notified
May-June: Recipients publicly announced
