Academic Counseling

The purpose of academic counseling is to help you figure out what is standing in the way of your success and eliminate those barriers. Whether it's mental or physical health issues, problems in your social life, or other academic struggles, your academic counselor, Makenzie Moriarty, can help you access the right resources.

Schedule Your Appointment

Find a time that works in your schedule, if you don't see anything or have questions, email Makenzie Moriarty at mkmoriarty@smu.edu.

What to Expect

Academic counseling meetings are usually 30 minutes, take place every other week, and are tailored to your individual needs. During an academic counseling meeting, you should expect to spend some time reflecting on what has been going well and what hasn't. This will help identify how you can use your strengths to address areas of your life that you would like to improve. Academic counseling is a place for problem solving, not judgement. You should also expect to be held accountable to the goals you set for yourself and be celebrated for wins throughout the semester.
