Explore Perkins, Graduate Theological Education During ‘Inside Perkins’ Event

All prospective degree and non-degree students are invited to attend Inside Perkins, a free information session offered by Perkins School of Theology, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 21. In addition to receiving a first-hand look at the range of educational opportunities offered at both the Dallas campus and through the Houston-Galveston Extension Program, participants will have the opportunity to engage with noted theologian Dr. Stanley Hauerwas.

DALLAS (SMU) – Interested in discerning your call to ministry through graduate theological education?

All prospective degree and non-degree students are invited to attend Inside Perkins, a free information session offered by Perkins School of Theology, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 21. In addition to receiving a first-hand look at the range of educational opportunities offered at both the Dallas campus and through the Houston-Galveston Extension Program, participants will have the opportunity to engage with noted theologian Dr. Stanley Hauerwas.

Prospective students will meet with students and faculty, attend a class, tour the school’s facilities and learn more about admissions and financial aid. Additionally, attendees can discover more and inquire about Perkins’ renowned Global Theological Education and Intern programs.

During the Sept 21 Inside Perkins, participants will attend the 2nd Annual SMU Maguire Chair Symposium featuring Dr. Stanley Hauerwas, Gilbert T. Rowe Professor Emeritus of Divinity and Law, Duke University, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Perkins faculty members Dr. Rebekah Miles and Dr. Theodore Walker Jr. will join Fr. Joshua Whitfield in a panel discussion with Dr. Hauerwas on his new book "The Character of Virtue: Letters to a Godson."

Additional 2018 Inside Perkins event opportunities include:

  • Wednesday, Oct. 3 – Dallas campus
    • 5 to 8:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 13 – Dallas campus
    • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will include lunch with Brian McLaren and Sandra Van Opstal.
      In addition, from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. participants have the option to attend Worship with Brian McLaren.
  • Tuesday, Dec. 4 – Houston-Galveston campus
    • 7 - 8:30 p.m. Information Session
      St. Paul’s UMC, 5501 S Main St, Houston, TX 77004
  • Thursday, Dec. 6 – Dallas campus
    • 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will include the option to attend the annual Advent Worship service from 4-5 p.m.
