DALLAS (SMU) – Are you looking for a way to expand your theological knowledge but aren’t quite ready to commit to a particular degree program? Perkins School of Theology has just the answer: enroll as a non-degree student to experience all that Perkins has to offer.
This opportunity is available for anyone interested in learning about a particular subject area – Old Testament, New Testament, church history or the like – or has a passion to engage about theology in general in a community setting.
“We recognize that not everyone is ready for a long-term commitment to an academic program, and that’s ok,” said Dr. William J. Bryan III, Associate Dean for Student Affairs at Perkins. “We still want to share and make available to others all that Perkins is renowned for: courses that will challenge students both academically and spiritually as well as award-winning faculty who are experts in their fields of study.”
Non-degree students can take courses at Perkins under that classification for up to year, at which time they can apply for a degree program or request to continue as a non-degree student.
The application deadline for entry into this program is Monday, Aug. 15. A non-degree application, in addition to more information about Perkins, can be found at http://www.smu.edu/Perkins/Admissions/apply. Applications also must include an unofficial transcript, completed recommendation form and a letter of recommendation.

Perkins School of Theology, founded in 1911, is one of five official University-related schools of theology of The United Methodist Church. Degree programs include the Master of Divinity, Master of Sacred Music, Master of Theological Studies, Master of Arts in Ministry, Master of Theology, Doctor of Ministry, and Doctor of Pastoral Music as well as the Ph.D., in cooperation with The Graduate Program in Religious Studies at SMU’s Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences.
