Dr. Joerg Rieger Receives Gammie Distinguished Scholar Award
Dr. Joerg Rieger, Wendland-Cook Endowed Professor of Constructive Theology at Perkins, received the John G. Gammie Distinguished Scholar Award at the 2015 meeting of the Southwest Commission on Religious Studies.
DALLAS (SMU) – The Rev. Dr. Joerg Rieger, Wendland-Cook Endowed Professor of Constructive Theology at Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University, received the John G. Gammie Distinguished Scholar Award at the 2015 meeting of the Southwest Commission on Religious Studies.

Gammie Award recipients are recognized by their peers nationally or internationally for the quality and importance of their work.
Professor Rieger is the second Gammie Award recipient from Perkins (after Dr. Bill Farmer, 1987), and the third recipient from SMU (including Dr. Joe Tyson, 1993).

The Southwest Commission on Religious Studies (SWCRS) was established in 1974 to encourage, support, and coordinate scholarly activities in the field of religious studies in the Southwest. The Commission serves as the umbrella for the regional American Academy of Religion, American Schools of Oriental Research, Association for the Scientific Study of Religion, and Society of Biblical Literature.
As the author and editor of 17 books and more than 120 articles, Professor Rieger is nationally and internationally known as a theologian and lecturer whose publications have been translated into six different languages. He has lectured in 14 different countries.
