Rev. Dr. Susan Henry-Crowe to Preach for Perkins 2015 Graduation Event

DALLAS (SMU) – The Reverend Dr. Susan Henry-Crowe, chief executive of The United Methodist Church's General Board of Church and Society (GBCS), will be preacher for Perkins School of Theology’s 2015 Celebration of Degrees and Academic Achievements. The service is set for Saturday, May 16, 2:00 p.m., in the sanctuary of Highland Park United Methodist Church, 3300 Mockingbird Lane, Dallas.

The service will mark the culmination of a series of 2015 graduation-related events at Perkins School of Theology-Southern Methodist University. See the schedule of events.

Perkins School of Theology Dean William B. Lawrence expressed enthusiasm about welcoming Dr. Henry-Crowe as guest preacher, along with appreciation for her vital ministry. “Dr. Henry-Crowe is a distinguished leader not only in The United Methodist Church but also as a prophetic advocate for justice nationally and internationally,” Dean Lawrence said. “It is an honor and privilege to welcome my esteemed colleague to Perkins on this important occasion.”

Prior to assuming her duties as General Secretary of GBCS in February 2014, Dr. Henry-Crowe was dean of the Chapel and Religious Life at Emory University in Atlanta. An ordained elder in The United Methodist Church and a member of the South Carolina Annual Conference, Dr. Henry-Crowe served for 16 years on the UMC's Judicial Council, including four years (2008–2012) as the first woman elected president of the Judicial Council.

The General Board of Church and Society is one of four international general program boards of The United Methodist Church. The General Board has headquarters on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. and at the Church Center for the United Nations in New York City.

Perkins School of Theology, founded in 1911, is one of five official University-related schools of theology of The United Methodist Church. Degree programs include the Master of Divinity, Master of Sacred Music, Master of Theological Studies, Master of Arts in Ministry, and Doctor of Ministry, as well as the Ph.D., in cooperation with The Graduate Program in Religious Studies at SMU’s Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences.
