Public Life | Personal Faith Colloquium with Jon Meacham: Feb. 15, 9:30-10:30 am

Jon Meacham, Pulitzer Prize-winning author and contributing editor at Time, will share informal remarks with a Q&A session at the 2013 Public Life | Personal Faith Colloquium, Friday, February 15, 2013, from 9:30 – 10:30 am. The colloquium, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the Great Hall of Elizabeth Perkins Prothro Hall, 5901 Bishop Boulevard, on the campus of Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

Meacham served as Newsweek magazine’s managing editor from 1998 to 2006 and editor from 2006 to 2010. The New York Times called him “one of the most influential editors in the news magazine business.”  His New York Times bestseller, American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House, won the Pulitzer Prize for biography. Meacham’s 2007 New York Times bestseller, American Gospel: God, the Founding Fathers, and the Making of a Nation, forms the backdrop for this year’s PL|PF events. (More about Jon Meacham)

The Colloquium is one of several events associated with the Public Life | Personal Faith series, including a sold-out fundraising luncheon and lecture. The Bolin Family 2013 PL|PF Lecture, Luncheon, and Colloquium, which marks the fourth annual PL|PF event, is sponsored by the family of Pat and Jane Bolin. Pat Bolin, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at EagleCorp and Eagle Oil & Gas Co. in Dallas, is a graduate of Southern Methodist University (B.A. ’73) and 2010 recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the SMU Cox School of Business.

This fourth annual PL|PF Lecture, Luncheon and Colloquium is a fundraising and outreach event of Perkins School of Theology in service to the larger community. The lecture and symposium provide an opportunity for participants to engage scholars on topics related to why and how personal faith shapes public life. “We are called to know, love, and serve God and neighbor in our daily lives through sharing the Gospel of truth, mercy, justice, and love,” explains Rev. Dr. Todd Rasberry, director of Development at Perkins. “Personal faith has practical consequences for the way we think, speak, make choices, and live our public lives."
