Umphrey Lee Center
The Umphrey Lee Center, located off the main quad on the west side of campus, is home to four award-winning Meadows School communications divisions: Corporate Communication and Public Affairs, Journalism, the Temerlin Advertising Institute, and Film and Media Arts.
Corporate Communication and Public Affairs classrooms, a presentation room and a dedicated debate meeting room are located on the main floor.
The Division of Journalism, also on the main floor, features a state-of-the-art media convergence lab, broadcast studio, control room and green room, conference rooms and classrooms outfitted with Apple computers at every desk. Journalism majors are permitted secure, 24-hour access to the complex.
The Temerlin Advertising Institute, one of the nation’s only endowed collegiate advertising programs, is also on the first floor; amenities include a focus group facility, graduate seminar room, computer lab, creative suite, and “Praxis” lab where the National Student Advertising Competition team develops campaigns.
Film and Media Arts is located on the lower level. Amenities include a fully stocked equipment room, including HD, digital and analog cameras, dollies, lights and more – as well as a computer edit lab and a newly renovated audio and Foley recording studio.
Also on the lower level is the lavish, all-you-can-eat “RFoC” (Real Food on Campus) cafeteria, with items for every palate including burgers, hot dishes, desserts, a vegan kiosk and a make-your-own waffles station.
The Martha Proctor Mack Grand Ballroom on the third floor is a premium space for large presentations, dinners, lectures and gatherings. Opened in 1955, the Mack Grand Ballroom was renovated in 2010 and features contemporary seating, updated heating and air conditioning and state-of-the-art audio/visual systems. New energy-efficient windows allow natural light to spill in during the daytime, while evening light is provided in part by silver chandeliers that can be raised and lowered from the coffered ceiling. Detailed Georgian architectural crown molding and brackets finish the room.
