Thank you to David Cho for his 8 years of extraordinary leadership
SMU Law Small Business and Trademark Clinic
Professor David Cho will be leaving SMU after 8 years of extraordinary leadership and contributions to SMU Law's academic development and expansion of the trademark portion of the Small Business and Trademark Clinic.
Cho is currently an Assistant Vice President Senior Legal Counsel for AT&T, a company providing 5G wireless and multi-gig internet offerings to 100 million U.S. families, friends and neighbors. He oversees trademark and copyright issues for the Legal Department, and directs a team and outside counsel to manage and protect global trademark and domain name portfolios involving the parent company, subsidiaries and affiliates including the intellectual property company.
Telecom giant by day and Trademark Clinic Director by night, Cho has assisted numerous small businesses and non-profits over the years with endeavors such as the federal trademark protection for ClefNotes, stickers used in music composition, and a popular food truck brand, Nammi Vietnamese Street Food.
Dozens of students have benefitted from his direction, helping clients with trademark applications, and seeing first-hand the issues that arise in representing a business, and assisting some to pursue a career in trademark law.
The SMU Law faculty, staff, and students are incredibly grateful for Professor Cho’s years of invaluable contributions to this institution, and wish him the best on his next venture.
