SMU Perkins Chapel at dawnOur mission is to educate and equip students for faithful leadership and Christian ministry in a changing church and society. Perkins School of Theology meets you where you are, both spiritually and geographically, through our hybrid program.

If you’ve felt torn between your service in a local ministry and your desire to pursue a ministry degree, our hybrid program is designed for you. At Perkins, you don’t have to choose between two callings. We want to empower you to fulfill both.

Online divinity degrees with in-person immersions

Immersion experiences

More than just learning, our Master of Divinity program combines online coursework with occasional immersive experiences. These five week-long immersions require pre- and post-work online, with the majority of contact hours happening in-person during the trips. Experience course instruction, shared meals, worship, engagement with ministries and leaders, and time for study, relaxation and building community with fellow students.

Benefits of in-person learning

If you seek only accountability for your theological reading, many 100% online programs are available. However, for both information and formation, the Perkins hybrid program combines the flexibility of online learning with the invaluable experience of in-person classes.

Build relationships and develop close connections with future church leaders while growing in faith and worship together. The Perkins hybrid program offers an excellent education with the best of both worlds.

Flexibility while fostering spiritual growth

Our hybrid courses allow you to pursue ministry remotely, combining mostly online learning with some in-person sessions. Designed to fit your life, this program lets you stay employed while reducing tuition, fees and travel time, making the transition smoother for you and your family.

Fostering connectedness, Perkins offers immersion experiences that bring students together, building relationships both from afar and in person.

I felt that Perkins was crucial to my own personal journey of deconstruction and my professional goal of gaining the credentials necessary to become a chaplain.
